I was reminded last week that this is the year of my Golden Birthday. Today, I turn 28 on the 28th. So, today I'm going to take full advantage of my special day.
Carl won't be home until later tonight, so it's just me and my little girl. I don't have anything spectacular planned...but a nice relaxing day enjoying life. After her nap, I think we will go out to lunch together and then go shopping. Tomorrow my parents are coming to visit and spend the day with us. Hopefully I'll be able to get our taxes done and then we're all going out for ice cream.
Hopefully you remembered to celebrate your "Golden Birthday" and if you haven't had yours yet...don't forget to enjoy this once in a lifetime day!

Nathan
"The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away. Blessed be the name of the Lord." Job 1:21
My sister gave birth to a little boy, Eilam Wendell on Thursday February 21, 2008. That next morning my lovely cousin woke up and started her day this way (excerpt from her blog):
The same day that a new life came into the world from the Lord’s arms another new life left the world and went straight to the Lord’s arms. Someday, she will be able to hold her beautiful baby boy in her arms again…until then the Lord will hold him and keep him safe, awaiting her arrival. Her faith is amazing and her love for the Lord is incredible. She is a real inspiration.
We love you Jean, and we’re praying for you!

I want you to know that Friday morning as I sat down to study God's word I prayed and asked the Lord to heal Nathan, if He hadn't already, before my ultrasound later that day or if He was going to take Nathan to be with Himself then to do that before the ultrasound. The Lord heard my cries and Nathan's little heart had stopped beating before I arrived for my ultrasound. The doctor estimated that Nathan had passed, been born into Jesus' arms, sometime on Thursday, February 21.

Nephew...

We went and visited our nephew yesterday...we had so much fun! He's adorable. He has the biggest feet and hands...check out the picture of our 10 month old daughter's feet vs his 4 day old feet. Our little girl loved his hair and kept wanting to pull it...I see many fun days ahead for them as cousins!

The Laundry Basket...

As I'm sitting here working on my blog and my MySpace page I am watching my daughter from across the room pull all of the clothes out of the laundry basket, shaking them as she goes to make sure they are unfolded. This has become a new hobby of hers. Granted I should have taken care of them last night when I folded them, but it was too late and I was too tired. Now I have a pile of clothes laying on the living room floor all unfolded...so much for a clean family room!
I WON!

My cousin Jean awarded me the excellent blog award...what an honor...thanks! Her blog is great too...you should check it out...A Work in Progress
I am awarding this to my friend Andrea...her blog is great...got something in mind...

Leeland
Almost 2 years ago, on Jars of Clay MySpace page, they talked about a group named Leeland. They said they would be big someday and encouraged everyone to go buy their CD, so I did...and it was great...I really liked it...it also came signed. I shared it with many friends who were also impressed with their music. Well, now they are touring with Casting Crowns and have a second CD coming out on February 26, 2008.
Jump ahead to yesterday. I was listening to Way FM on my computer, when I received an e-mail saying that for Valentine's Day only you could buy Leeland's new CD for $7 at Leeland. I bookmarked the e-mail so I would remember to check it out today. At that exact moment the radio DJ said "call now for a chance to win Leeland's new CD". I gave them a call and after answering 4 true/false trivia questions about Leeland the CD was mine!
If you haven't listened to their music, you really should!

Cultivating Contentment
Last Sunday I had mixed feelings about going to church. I really wanted to go but my husband was on-call Saturday night and was going to be coming home after we left and I wanted to see him. I also had wings to make for the Super Bowl party. I looked up the church's website and saw our Pastor was talking about "cultivating contentment" and decided that I wanted to hear it. God has been working in my life lately on being happy in whatever situation I am in. He has put me there for a reason and it's my job to patiently wait it out. So, we bundled up, left a note for Carl and headed out.
My little girl loves the worship part of church and sings along and dances to the songs, which just melts my heart! Just as the worship part ended another mother and her 10 1/2 month daughter come into the "family room" in the back of the sanctuary (where we normally sit so she play and crawl around during the service). We were chatting away and before I realized it, we had talked through almost the whole sermon. The bits and pieces I caught were great and so after it was over I went to the bookstore and purchased a CD of the sermon to listen to on my way down to work that week.
Tuesday morning, I headed out to work. I popped the CD in the deck and we were on our way (see previous post for my events of the morning). The sermon was awesome. He talked about finances and being content with what God has given you, giving back to Him, and earthly possessions including food. Did you know that we spend more on ice cream every year than the estimated annual total needed to provide clean water and safe sewers for the world's population?! Another area he touched on was that as long as you are following God's will in your life it is okay to have things...some people are just blessed that way...just make sure you keep yourself in check. One quote that he provided was "All earthly joy begins pleasantly but at the end it gnaws and kills" Thomas A Kempis. It was a great reminder that earthly things are just that...it's like the famous quote that you never see a hearse hauling a U-Hall.
If you want to listen to the sermon go to Trinity Church. At the top click on resources and then either "listen" or "podcasts". If you have an extra 30 minutes I would highly recommend it...you won't be disappointed...in fact you'll probably be motivated after you listen...I sure was!
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal" - Matthew 6:19

It's All In Your Perspective
It all started yesterday after taking my lovely daughter to her 9 month old well child check up. Carl had the morning off and was able to go with us, which was great. Her doctor is about 30 minutes away and so she slept the whole way there and the whole way home. So, once she got home (just before nap time) she decided that a nap just wasn't in her schedule for the day. Which is a real bummer for me...I get a lot of my work done for my job during her nap time. After 3 different attempts it just wasn't going to happen, and she normally is a good napper! Carl left for work (he was on-call last night) during one of our naptime attempts.
It was now late afternoon. She had lunch, played some more while I worked, had a mini power snooze on the couch with me, had dinner, bath time and loads of cuddle time with mom. Then it was off to bed for the night, which lately has been a struggle (she just started crawling and is just so excited about it all the time). After about an hour and a half of her crying and me rubbing her back and doing my best to soothe her to sleep, she finally made it. I still had loads of work to do for my job, so it was a late night for me...up until about midnight.
My alarm went off at 5am, must to my disbelief that morning was already here. I drug myself out of bed, got ready for work, ate breakfast, worked some more, played with our dog, and she was still sleeping. It was now about 7am...and I should be leaving for work. I e-mailed my boss and told her I would be a little late. I went in and broke the cardinal rule "never wake a sleeping baby". She ate and then we bundled up and headed out the door...that's when the stress from yesterday finally hit.
As I was backing out of the driveway I spilled my travel mug of Oregon Chai in the car. I pulled back in the driveway...cleaned up, refocused and started again. I started Sunday's sermon CD and was on my way (I'll get to that sermon in another post). I made it about 20 minutes from home and was merging onto the highway and looked in the rearview mirror to see her car seat move as I went around the curve, so I pulled off on the next exit (about 1/4 mile up the road) to tighten it. As I got back in the car, I once again spilled my drink; at this point a police officer pulled next to me and turned his lights on. My first thought was "great...someone must have seen her carseat move and called the cops on me". But, he was just checking to make sure everything was okay, because I had my flashers on. I told him "yes, I just spilled some milk and wanted to clean up before I made even more of a mess". He said he had a towel in the back and wanted to know if I needed any help, I told him I was okay and thanks. He said "your welcome...I hope your day goes better", and off he went.
I dropped my daughter off at my parent's house and finally made it to work about an hour late, but I made it. As I was pulling into the parking lot recounting the last 12 hours and hoping the rest of my day would improve it hit me like a ton of bricks..."it is all how you look at it".

- Yes, my daughter had a doctor's appointment, which threw off her nap schedule, but she is healthy and on perfect track for her age!
- Yes, my husband has to work crazy hours every week, but he is on his way to live his dream.
- Yes, she didn't take a nap on her own, but we did have a nice snooze cuddled together on the couch.
- Yes, she had a horrible time falling asleep on her own that night, but I did get to sit down and rock her to sleep and watch her fall asleep in my arms.
- Yes, I had to stay up late and get work done for my job, but I am so blessed to be able to work some days at home and get to spend more time with her.
- Yes, I did have to wake up early, but again I am so blessed by my employer.
- Yes, I did spill a hot milk beverage in my car, twice, but I had something warm to drink this morning.
- Yes, I did have to stop and fix her carseat, and have a police officer pull up beside me, but I was so thankful that we have police officers to stop and see if we need help.
- Yes, it does take me a little longer in the morning to get to work, but I get to drop my daughter off at my parent's house and they get to spend time with her which is such a blessing to us and them.
- Yes, I did get to work late, but I have a super understanding boss.
Day One...
There have been many things over the past year that I regret I didn't record somewhere. After going through a fabulous year I've decided (again) to start a blog to share with others the happenings in our life.
