Happy Halloween!

This was Ellie's first year going trick-or-treating. She wanted to be a dinosaur...a T-Rex in particular. She would stomp around the house singing her T-Rex song (from the new PBS show "Dinosaur Train")..."I'm a T-Rex. I'm a Tyrannosaurus. I'm the biggest carnivore in the Cretaceous forest. Gonna grow some giant legs, gonna grow enormous feet, gonna stomp around, and mash my teeth and eat and eat and eat!". To say she was excited is an understatement. As I was getting her ready for her afternoon nap we were talking about going out after her nap. She told me "I LOVE candy. Candy is my favorite food"! Unfortunately Carl had to work so it was just mom and the kids. We loaded up and headed over to her best buddy Carson's house.

Ezra on the other hand didn't quite know why his mom had him dressed up as a tiger and plopped down between two big kids

Ellie was a perfect little trick-or-treater. She said "trick-or-treat" and "thank you" at each house.

Once we made it back to our friend's house, Ellie sat down in the middle of the floor with her pumpkin of candy and said "I think it's time for a snack".

We finally made it home and took a couple pictures in their Halloween pajamas


"Please mom, haven't I done enough? Can't I just go to bed?"

Ezra 4 Months Old

Ezra had his 4 month check up. He is 14lbs 13oz; 25 1/2" long, and his head is 17". He has started rice cereal and LOVES it. He actually cried yesterday when the bowl ran out and I had to make him more.

Aunt Sarah Comes to Town 10/20-10/28

On Sarah's last night here we were treated to an awesome sushi dinner by Dad & Mom Trott...thanks!! We had take-out from SanSu. We ordered, and ate, way more than we should but it was awesome and oh so much fun. Here are Carl and Sarah having a pickled ginger and wasabi eating challenge. They both ate a chunk of wasbi about 1/4 - 1/3 the size of the ball Carl has before it came to this. I opted out of the challenge knowing the Ezra probably wouldn't appreciate it later that night or the next morning.

On a side note the rainbow cake was super fun and relatively easy (just time consuming) to make! Here is the recipe. I did buy the food coloring recommended in the recipe. (Amazon has the best deal. I was really impressed on how bright the colors were.)

Sophie's Birthday

Day 5 (10/24) - Ellie was invited to her first "big girl" birthday party on Saturday 10/24. The daughter of my good friend from work was turning 5 and was having a "Fancy Nancy" party. Ellie got all dressed up in her party clothes...tutu, leggings, rocker shirt, sparkle shoes and pig-tails and was ready for the day. Sarah and Ezra came along for the fun.
Step 1 - Accessorize with rings, bracelets, butterfly hair clips, necklace, feather boa, feather snap bracelet, and another tutu




Step 2 - Decorate a purse. Ellie picked out the decorations and I helped her glue them on.

Step 3 - Paint nails a swanky shade of pink (she picked out the color)



At this point Ellie ran to the door and said "All done. Let's go home and show Daddy". I told her it was time for cupcakes and she threw her hands up in the air and yelled "cupcakes? I LOVE cupcakes!" and came running to the table.

On a side note the rainbow cupcakes were awesome and so easy to make! Here is the recipe. You follow the same instructions but only use one cake mix and put each color in a ziploc bag or decorating bag. Layer the colors in the cupcake liners and don't swirl. They look amazing and the kids loved them. My friend and I are always sharing recipes and I came across this one and knew she would love it. I made the cake version for my parent's Halloween party and she made the cupcakes for her daughter's birthday party. Both of us bought the food coloring recommended in the recipe. (Amazon has the best deal. I was really impressed on how bright the colors were.)
